About Madoc Guitars

I'm Luke Roberts, builder of Madoc Guitars.

I've played and tinkered with guitars for over 20 years. From playing in friends' bedrooms when we were teenagers, to performing on stages around the country.

I've always been a student of the electric guitar, always wanting to know what made a guitar play well and sound good, rather than handing it to a tech to set it up for me. Every guitar I ever owned has been immediately taken apart and studied, parts stripped and changed, finishes removed and re-laquered. Even if it didn't need it.

Madoc Guitars was born from both a love of guitar and frustration with the current mass produced guitar market. I waited eagerly every year for the new models to be released, but just couldnt find MY spec anywhere with an off-the-shelf guitar.

Yearning for something more interesting,  something visually and sonically different, I decided to use my 20 years of carpentry and woodworking experience to start building.

The first few builds were standard Fender-style guitars for friends, then after a few experiments, I took pencil to paper to realise my own vision for Madoc Guitars, in the Wyre model.

Madoc Guitars are hand built in Worcestershire by Luke Roberts. Madoc is my middle name, with my families heritage split between the West Midlands and North Wales
